Barefootpi private investigator scam, is this some kind of joke?

Jeremy Goodrich yep, that's me Asked by thedude 8 months ago, 9 answers.

If it is, it's not funny. "I am looking for name and telephone contact information for your subpoena compliance department. I have legal process to serve in order to request documentation on on account."

Now, if you ARE a private investigator, I...

strongly, highly, in fact, DEMAND that you get some basic training on how to use the flipping internet.

Professional courtesy: who you are, what you're doing, and most importantly, what gives you the right to go requesting information from my company.

Am I blowing this out of proportion, and should I go waste a bunch of money on a lawyer to get them for electronic harrassment? Baseless threats in California aren't allowed by law.

Yes, they wrote back, wanting to get data.

Not without a court order that's verifiable. I don't hand over our data unless we are forced to (and to date, knock on wood, that's never happened).

Tell them to go take a hike unless they give you more details!

I wouldn't even bother to reply. If you do, then they know they 'have a live one'.

I agree not to reply. This looks like a scam even though there is a real company with that name. The poor English and lack of verifiable information makes me suspicious.

Turns out, they wanted to know if they could still access out data if they needed it, they didn't have a court order, and wasted my time for a few hours.

Lesson learned: next email like that goes into the trash, unanswered.
