It doesn't matter what you make. That will come with time and personal preferences. You don't become an artist...you do it because you cant resist it. It's innate...that desire to forego all else and create is necessary for real art to be made. There are so many great artists in the world right now that may never be recognized for their worth...authors...composers...painters...but they continue regardless.

Use your inspiration as your guide. What kind of art do you enjoy? That would be the natural jumping off point for you. Try and emulate those artists and hone your skills. Eventually your own voice and imprint will take over.

Good luck.

question is- what kind of mediums do you usually use- oil paint, stone, glass, clay, what kind of artwork do you most enjoy?
I like to carve stone, make stained glass objects, and I usually get inspiration from the egyptians and the mayans and the native americans.
so what kind of artwork can you do?
here is a stone that I carved, it will be a ceremonial sword fitting.

Misceg is right when he says you do it because you can't resist. I'd go a step further and say that artists, creators of music, paintings, writings... do it because they have to. It's a need to express creativity and the best moment is when you've done something amazing and feel you can't even really take credit for it yourself, because of that feeling that the story just wrote itself, or the picture painted itself.

I say, live for your art and let it take you to places you've never been before. And don't worry about whether it pays the rent - it probably won't, but you will be rich in so many other ways.
