One thing that was missed on that list. . . . Heat. . . . You can use a lighter but a blowdryer is better. . After you put the polish on the boot/Shoe heat it up good and then polish it with an old nylon stocking or Pantyholes. it works best if your wearing the boot or have a shoe butler to hole the shoe firm. . .

Incase your wondering. . . . I'm a proffesional shoe Cobbler. . . . ( Shoe repairman)

Once you're in the army... you won't have to polish boots anymore because they wear ACUs and desert boots that have kinda a suede on them.

Here's a tip I found. ""You need 4 things,Saddle Soap,Black Kiwi,a diaper cloth and water.Use S.S. to strip boots down, then utilizing a diaper cloth(available in most Military PX's) dip it into water and put a little Kiwi on the cloth, gingerly rub it into boot(s) in small circular motions. The secret is very little Kiwi, and a little water. It takes a long time but once you get the shine it stays with very little effort.""

I've also heard the inside of a banana peal works in a pinch.
