I think there has to be other life forms on other planets; the universe is too big for Earth to be the only planet that can support life.

there was a really good chance life was on mars, sciencetists found traces of water and the proper setting for life 1 billion years ago.

so are we decendence from mars or did life happen twice in one solar system. and if it happened twice in our solar system, think how many other solar systems are out there. life is probally a naturally occuring thing in the universe.

no I dont think so, who are we to say what is too big, as God creaeted it. eurgh that came out wrong but I cant think of a better way to put it so I'll just leave it. sorry.

I dont believe it. as to why, there was an article iread in the March-May 2007 edition of Creation Magazine that I would summarise but its a bit long for here. and nobody would read it. so I'll just put the website here and you can search the archives if youre that interested.

The universe is very large and possibly infinite in volume; the observable matter is spread over a space at least 93 billion light years across. For comparison, the diameter of a typical galaxy is only 30,000 light-years, and the typical distance between two neighbouring galaxies is only 3 million light-years. As an example, our Milky Way galaxy is roughly 100,000 light years in diameter, and our nearest sister galaxy, the Andromeda Galaxy, is located roughly 2.5 million light years away.

I think that's pretty big, but I may be wrong.

Well we aren't GOD so it's BIG...geeeze!!!

Lots of room for life to occur...possibly next to every star you see in the sky, and the ones that you can't see...cause it's so BIG, VAST, HUUUGE even!!!

Life outside Earth, is a subject of astrobiology, and its existence remains theoretical.

Speculative forms of extraterrestrial life range from sapient(great intelligence) to life at the scale of bacteria.

All life on Earth is based on the building block element carbon with water as the solvent in which BIOCHEMICAL reactions take place.

Given the chemicals relative abundance and usefulness in sustaining life it has long been assumed that life forms elsewhere in the universe will also have the same basic BIOCHEMESTRY. However, other elements and solvents might be capable of providing a basis for life. Silicon is usually considered the most likely alternative to carbon, though is improbable. Silicon life forms are proposed to have a crystalline morphology, and are theorized to be able to exist in high temperatures, such as on planets which are very close to their star. Life forms based in ammonia rather than water are also considered, though this solution appears less optimal than water.

Life on other planets could originate like or similar or even different then it did on Earth, but the same, or different, basic life, and evolve to the planet.

Technically life is little more than any self-replicating reaction, which could arise in a great many conditions and with various ingredients.

The drake equation mathematically simplifies the rate of formation of suitable stars, the fraction of those stars which contain planets, the number of Earth-like worlds per planetary system, the fraction of planets where intelligent life develops, the probability (actually a product of probabilities) that any one of these stars possess the necessary conditions for life to originate and to evolve to a technological civilization, and the average longevity of such civilizations. Of course this is only an estimate and has a big possibility to be wrong but it states there are an estimated 10,000 planets containing intelligent life in the Milky Way galaxy.

I doubt it, it doesnt say anything about in it the bible, it doesnt even hint any of kind of alien in the universe that he would of had to of created, its just the human mind that makes up that, because we want answers to every question, thats why people put up websites like the one from nebula, but yea I would like to beleive that there are intelligent lifeforms out there, but I'd rather trust the bible then trust a theory that was based on nothing up untill the 1980s

wt hh. The Bible was written 2,000 years ago, from the imagination..And you believe it? Now the drake equation was formed along time ago and I don't necessarily trust it, but umm, the theory of extraterrestrial life is based on a lot.
FYI: God doesn't exist. Or "Create" things
And that site is facts, that's where I got that info that's why I posted it.
And yes to clairify Aliens are POSSIBLE.
I want answers and seek the truth.

To nebula:

the Bible was written 2000 years ago, given from God to us. God exists. He created us.

you say how can I believe it? I say because I see God in everything, every day,.

I say it because I know that even with all the wars and poverty going on, I still see Him working in my life.

I say it because I have faith. I have put my whole eternity on the line by trusting in God, but to me it isnt so much of a line becasue I know God is real.

God promises us answers and the truth. He says 'call to me, and I will tell you great and unsearchable things youdo not know' (Jeremiah 33:3).

so you can call me what you want, you can imply that I am alll kinds of fool, but I believe, and nothing anyone says can make me turn my back on Christ..

---WHOMP---
im back on earth now.
there, that's my poetic retaliation out of the way.

but however much I mock myself, I still believe every word I just said.

praying for you, (not just saying it), and God bless you.

I believe there could be aliens-the universe is way too big for just us
and why could anyone believe god exists?! if he cared about us SOOO much, then why would he let horrible things like rape and war go on?

if there are aliens, I want to go to their planet... maybe it wont be as polluted and violent

Just imagine how smart school children would be, if all the books they read were written 2000 years ago. I have nothing against people voicing their opinion, but just because something isn't written in a book (Written by humans) it doesn't mean it doesn't exist...there are many things that exist today, that weren't written in old books.

We are the dust of the universe, the truth is out there.

Yeah keep in mind the Bible writes when the Earth was flat and suspended by pillars and in the center of the Universe. They didn't know how vast space was.

I believe sometimes I think we could even be one cause we only use 20% of our brain and look what we can do so if we used all of it imagine what we could do

anything can be possible but maybe to them we are aleins...remember we are only one planet in a very small galexy...if we went flying it would literally take us about 120 years to fly the diameter of it...there are also many different types of galexies...and there are many that are larger than ours they may have planets and moons as well we have no idea what kind of other things are out there...the closest star to us is approx. 5 light years away from us...it takes thats stars light 5 days to get to us. so the stars you see in the sky that is what it looked like 5 days ago there...they could be gone and we wouldnt know it for 5 days...also consider it takes 7 minutes for the suns light 7 minutes to get here..and it takes some planets 185 of our years to even revolve around the sun once...so basically you never know what is out there

funadvice, I love your thinking. what you have said is basically sums up my beliefs.

in response to odal, what you have said is very important to the subject of "finding" alien life. If it exists (probably), statistically there is a high chance it is very far away from us. Which means that even if we look at that planet with telescopes and whatnot, we are seeing how it looked a very, very long time ago, possibly before life came along there.
