How do you approach women?

How do you approached a nice young lady without having to think about what you've heard and trying to remember what someone has already said?

I think the perfect thing a guy could say to a girl that wouldnt scare them away but also pick them up is ask a simple small talk question that is a good conversation stater

ie:
if at the mall ask if they like that store

or at the movies ask any good movies that way there is a good topic so you wont feel awkward not knowing what to say later one
