First of all, Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer are two different things. If your error messages are for Internet Explorer, then you can simply download Firefox or Safari or another browser of your choice for viewing the internet. If the error message is specifically saying "Windows Explorer encountered a problem and needs to close", that is another issue entirely. Windows Explorer in a nutshell is the piece of software in Windows that lets you navigate through files on your computer. If it closes, usually all your icons on the desktop and the start bar will disappear, and then come back (as Windows Explorer opens itself back up again).

If your problem is with Windows Explorer, then that is a more serious issue and not an easy one to solve - Windows Explorer is a fundamental part of Windows. However there are freeware programs (as rnealw has suggested) that will allow you to still manage your files and folders, but using your computer will be a bit different. Another solution, if available to you, is to re-install Windows.

People answering this question seem to confuse Windows Explorer with Internet Explorer... And no, you can't get rid of it; it is an integral part of Windows...
