Abortion and the bible

hi Asked by goodjuju 2 months ago, 20 answers.

In the bible it says any infant under 1 month or any infant before his first breath is not a person, im serious! so then abortion is not murder, right?

If I should ever find myself in the unfortunate situation of needing to abort (and it would be only due to medical reasons or rape), I shall be consulting my doctors - not 4000 year old nomads and sheep herders.

apparently to anyone it's 'Wrong'

but I do think if someone gets pregnant by accident they should stick with it, they made the choice and now there's the consequence.

I do believe if the kid is mentally retarded or would not function well in society then I do believe in abortion. After all, that's what I would want if I was like that. Maybe I just have a sick and twisted mind... hm

The bible said He created them in the mothers womb. he called them before they were born. where does it say that. the breath is just the spirit, the spirit and the sould are two different things. and the child is getting breath thru the blood which has oxygen.

According to this passage abortion is not murder...

'And if men struggle and strike a woman with child so that she has a miscarriage, yet there is no further injury, he shall be fined as the woman's husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judges decide. But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.'
Exodus 21:22-25

For causing an abortion just means the person is fined... if it was murder then it would have been punished more severely?
'if there is any further injury, life for life', if and only if there is further injury...

goodjuju Would you care to show us the book, chapter and verse(s) where you found this at. . .

The phrase 'conceived and bore' is used repeatedly (see Genesis 4:1,17) and the individual has the same identity before as after birth. 'In sin my mother conceived me,' the repentant psalmist says in Psalm 51:7. The same word is used for the child before and after birth (Brephos, that is, 'infant,' is used in Luke 1:41 and Luke 18:15.)

God knows the preborn child. 'You knit me in my mother’s womb . . . nor was my frame unknown to you when I was made in secret' (Psalm 139:13,15). God also helps and calls the preborn child. 'You have been my guide since I was first formed . . . from my mother’s womb you are my God' (Psalm 22:10-11). 'God… from my mother’s womb had set me apart and called me through his grace' (St. Paul to the Galatians 1:15).

The Bible makes no reference at all to the medical practice of abortion, or to the topic of whether a fetus is a human life, or to whether a woman should have the choice of getting an abortion.

Abortion may be a hot button issue for Christians today, but it simply is not a Biblical issue.

God says to Jeremiah in Jeremiah 1:5, ''Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.'' So people are PEOPLE in God's sight even BEFORE conception!

There are many other verses also which make this clear. For example, in Isaiah 45:1 and 13, God names Cyrus, a king of Persia who would not be born for another 400 years! 'I will raise up Cyrus ...he will rebuild my city and set my exiles free...' and about 400 year later, that is exactly what Cyrus did. Incredible! So how could it be that he was 'not a person' just for the 9 months in his mother's womb? He had already been known & named by his Maker! Sounds like what we read in Psalm 139: 13-16.
'For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.'

A baby is a human being in the womb and out of the womb -- let's be logical! And let's believe the Word of our Maker!

Genesis 2:7

Thunder Robot Answered by funadvice on May 14, 2008, 03:40PM

Gen 2:7 And Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

This has nothing to do with giving birth at all. It is about God Creating the first man. . .

As you can see from the above posts, the Bible is inconsistent in it's treatment of the unborn. What else would you expect from some silly compilation of ancient superstitious texts?

Abortion will remain a public policy hot potato as long as positions are based on absurdities such as what's written in old books, rather than on reasoned positions.

the bible is full of crap like that

if say the condom broke, there not menatlly prepared, they were raped...
but its not good for young girls who cant keep there legs crossed or use protection

There are some good questions being raised here and it's making me think. Hebrew women must have used all the tricks that women did more recently before our fertility was medicalised - basic contraceptive tricks, avoiding ovulation time, probably inducing miscarriages too. Are none of these things discussed in the OT?

Have you researched what actually takes place during an abortion?

And have you talked to women and girls that had them, to see how they felt later?

Here is just one site, that describes what happens when an abortion takes place,

I challange you to read thru it, and look at the pictures, and do more research on it, so that you know exactly what is taking place...

silverwings: Why should the physical process of abortion, or pictures of it, or even peoples' emotions after it, affect the morality of the matter?

Plenty of legitimate and acceptable things look pretty ugly. I wouldn't like to stare at pictures of life-saving surgery in progress, either, but that doesn't mean I think it's immoral because of it. And for any sufficiently significant act in someone's life, you'll be able to find someone who regrets it - and plenty of other people who think it was a good idea.

where does the bible say an infant under 1 month isn't a person? as for an unborn fetus, I believe it's not murder to have an abortion before your 3rd trimester. It's probalby not murder for at least some of hte 3rd, but beyond that I don't know.
