There was a recent survey to that effect, yeah. Clearly either the wording was poor, or at least 20% of people don't understand what 'atheist' means.

no, I dodnt know were you get your facts from but thats incorrect
sure some athiets would have there doubts
just like some christians will have there doubts as well

I actually saw that survey, and like many surveys, it's misleading. The actual question asked was "do you believe in a god or higher power". The question is ambiguous, which of course leads to confusion and error.

Satan may believe in God, but the atheist does not believe in Satan. Your snappy comeback has been voided.

The nonbeliever can't believe. It's a paradox. Another example of a group of scientists more concerned about making a stir than achieving scientific breakthroughs.

kevinmm's right, the nonbeliever can't believe.

Maybe they call themselves atheists, but are really not sure if they can truly say they don't believe in God. But they shouldn't say it at all if they don't know what they believe, and don't believe. So even if it was true...it wouldn't be true because they wouldn't really be atheists...if that makes sense.
