All of the foolish and irresponsible breedings make it so much harder for those of us that dedicate ourselves to breeding. I hate to think of where those poor puppies will end up, bred and sold for the almighty dollar. Be harsh and be true, maybe it will strike a cord and some sense will leak in.
I posted a while back about having to step in with a puppy that I homed in November, Toby. I have been working with the owner and happ to share that Toby is now a happier dog and his owner's are too!! The root of his problem came from feeling overwhelmed by the amount of visitors that the kids were bringing through Toby's area. One of the older boys had been teasing Toby and he developed a fear of large men, I worked with him out of his enviroment and gave the owners pointers, she told me yesterday that he is a different dog now that his stressors have been dealt with. Good to hear, he is such a sweet and beautiful dog.
Fireworks have Lacey beside herself, she trembled and shook with fear, some jerk was lighting off illegal quarter sticks at 1 am. She flew a foot into the air after the first one, and trembled for 2 hours. I tried not to over comfort her but she was a pitiful sight for a while. After the 3rd one she ignored it and finally settled down.
Rainy 4th here, going to rain for the next 6 days, going to build an ark!!

Okay, I just went off on that young girl who has the penned, unsocialized dog that she is going to 'get rid of'...
you know why she is getting rid of her lab mix, because she wants a car and is going to breed her other dog, so she is getting rid of the lab mix.
I told her to get a job, or two.
Well, yall can read my answer. I know that it is mean but I am sick of teens and their selfish sttitudes towards animals.
Imagine, keeping a dog in a pen, never socializing it, and then getting rid of it because you want to breed another dog and sell the puppies to buy a car.
and she actually refers to herself as being a 'big animal person'.
So, if I went too far, let her know. and let me know also. I know that I get very passionate about things and am harsh.

Well....we went to the vet.....what an adventure, to say the least.....Gawd I hate taking him in. Moj is just a sucky patient, that's all there is to it. How can a dog who is soooo unfraid of new people, unafraid of fireworks, unafraid of so much that 'fearful dogs' are afraid of.....be so frigging scared at the vets office?? The MINUTE they put their hands on him he FREAKS.....eyes wild, and the NOISE......he sounds like we're breaking each and every bone....one by one.....

Charlene didn't even try to get blood, but said she's not a big pusher of having the test up here when a dog has been on Heartguard 6 months every year......that there were only 29 cases of heartworm in Montana last year. She knows me, too, from the horses....and that helps, because she knows I watch all my animals like a hawk.....so with no wierd lumps and bumps, no ear things, and no skin issues.....she just slid in his Rabies when he wasn't looking.....

She had me muzzle him.....Now I have 5 muzzles, and not a one of them fit.....they're all too small.....so she brought one in, I told her that I haven't every found one big enough. She said, 'well, this one just fit a 165 lb Rottie the other day, so I'm sure it'll fit. It did..... But THAT freaked Moj out, too. I thought if I had one, I could 'practice' with him, so he'd at least be used to that part. I asked if I could buy it.....she said she'd see if they could get me one...If I hadn't had him on a prong.....he'd have gone thru the window, no kidding.......I saw him eyeballing the only escape......and he was eyeballing it hard.....The top half was open, and he would have gone for it.

Oh, I got a chuckle, out of the 'report'.....everything she checked as 'normal'.....when it got to his teeth, it was also checked 'normal', except hand written beside it was 'Checked right side from a distance'.....LOL....

If anything every did happen, that he needed more than a curious look see, towards his health, he'd simply have to be sedated....that's all there is to it.

Oh.....and he weighed in at 129....so he's lost 2 lbs since last year......and I'll bet 7 or 8 since this winter.

I feel for ya and the scared cocker kids......When they get scared they get SOOOO scared.....Ike was terrified, Nookie was terrified.....Moj just barks at them....kind of a doggie version of ooooooooo and awwwwwww.....

Must be vet day!!! I had to take my 16 yr old cat in, actually my son's cat, thought sure we were going to have to put her down. My son moved out last year, took the cat and every time I asked him how she was he would say fine. Well come to find out she has had chronic diarhhea for the past 6 months!!! Unreal! He moved back home last week and I notice the problem. Anyway, the cat has ' irritable bowel syndrome' I was stunned but happy it s a simple fix.
Hope everyone has a great 4th, I will be comforing 8 Cockers that hate the noise!! LOL

Busy day today......the horses get shod at 10:30.....plus the neighbor's horse will get trimmed......that'll kick two hours out of my day off, in the butt. Then MoJo goes to the vet at 3:00 (not looking forward to that, he's such a sh**)!! Decided to take him to the same vet as I use for the horses.....we've had a 20 year relationship, tho she's much more into big animals, it's an all woman clinic......and Moj does like girls better.

Charlene also does wild animals......so when I told Greg I was taking Moj into her, he said......'Why, because she does Grizzly bears??'.....hahahahahaha......well, yeah...

Thanks so much guys!

I also read mineral oil, and the vet at my work OK'd it, so I gave them each two drops earlier today.

My sis used Gerber's also......like Andre said....it's in the babyfood section. It disolves so easily, and since you're starting out with just a touch in the milk, I think it can be sucked from a bottle.....but you might be able to start them licking it off your finger.....or an eyedropper....it will slide thru one of those.

Hi Editor

Go to the baby food section of your store. Look for the boxes of Gerber baby cereal. Comes is a small box with a baby on the front of it. There will be different types like rice, barley. oatmeal. I think the boxes are still sort of a yellow color. It use to say for newborns and whatever up. I don't know it still says newborns because dumb doctors want to starve babies on man made formula now days (another soapbox)

When you open it and pour it out it will be in small flakes. Mix and consistency that will not be to think or thin, but more on the thin side. If you are going to use it in a bottle at first you will have to make the nipple of the bottle a little bigger with a large pin or the point of a steak knife. Just don't get it to big.

Turn the bottle over and when the formula is in the nipple, press the nipple to the side, bending it back and pointing it towards your wrist and see how easy or hard it is for the formula to squirt out. Make your nipple hole small at first and test it going larger slowly. Don't want to choke the little guys.

Of course you may just see if the can lap it first. Or will

Good luck
Good Morning and have a wonderful day

OK, so mix in the baby cereal with the milk replacement? Do you have a specific brand or photo or something? I am clueless with baby cereal...I have no idea what that even is...Is it thin enough to drink from the bottle once I mix it? I feel so clueless

Hello Ladies

That Boxer that is my namesake and my favorite breed of dog. Is looking beautiful. Good work!!! Yeah!

Of course I love Bostons, Bichons, Poodles, and on and on I just love dogs. Mutts Heinz etc.

Kittens I agree on the baby cereal. I have even used baby formula and saved a litter of 9 boxer pups. I had it on hand and it worked. Honey is something that will revive failing puppy. Brings their blood sugar up.

But kittens as you two have already figured out dish soap and different ones work. Scruffy was covered in fleas when I brought him home as a kitten and I bathed him in dish soap, I think it was lemon Joy. Poor little kitten was at the flea market and covered in fleas. He is now 8 years old and a big boy.

I would certainly use the gruel phrannie is suggesting. I have always added baby cereal to my little rescues. It has to be the rice cereal. I don't think the oatmeal or barley is suppose to work as well. I can't remember for sure but I am sure it was rice I used.

It also adds a little substance for them to be able to lap the formula. Mom's actually teach them to lick correctly and to clean themselves correctly They will figure it out, but Scruffy licked all time. Insecure I guess.

Jerry is really coming around. Getting braver around the house and coming in and out of his crate and will go outside on his own now. Still have to carry him in with a crate but I am using a little crate (like big cat size) or puppy size. More like carry him in my arms. I will have to try to get you a picture of him in that little carrier. It's cute. He is only in it until we get in the house.

Ya know Dara......many years ago, a stray cat had kittens in our barn, and then got killed on the road in front of our farm......She had 5 kittens, eyes were open, but I don't think they were more than two weeks old......my sister took two, I took three......all of mine died. I was using replacer milk in a bottle......My sister on the other hand, mixed Gerbers baby mush in with the replacer....at first very thin gruel, thickening it as they got old enough to mix in a little kitten food to get soft. Both those kittens were soooo fat and sassy. I wonder if the fibre from the mush might be what helped those kittens thru the first 4 weeks????

I just don't know......

So I bathed the kitties with dishwashing liquid (citrus) to kill the fleas, as the Internet suggested in numerous places. Also used a flea comb and got about 8 fleas and a bunch of flea dirt out of the poor things. I'm going to do it again tonight to make sure they're all gone.

They're both eating great and their teeth are just poking in a little bit. I say they're about 3 weeks old. But the thing that's worrying me, is they don't poop. I stimulate them with the washcloth and they urinate after every feeding, but since Sunday, 1 of them pooped 1 time and that's it. No more poop. Anyone have any ideas? I'm concerned :/ I've never fostered kittens before so it's new for me, I've only done puppies (with this new house they get their own room
